3. NOLA, the Big Easy, Day 1

Our first day in the city was pet free: dropped the pup at Camp Bow Wow near the wharf for 2 days of boarding and play. First on the agenda: Cafe du Monde in the French Quarter for cafe au lait and beignets!

Walked 5 miles through Bourbon Street, seeing the French quarter.

We ended at Louis Armstrong Park at 10:50 am.  Joined a parade / funeral procession for Lady Liberty  coinciding with the Inauguration.

Traditional NOLA Band played “Closer Walk with Thee,” “St. James Infirmary” and other classic tunes as we walked down Rampart Street to Canal. Powerfully passionate crowd, if small.
Emeril has been a fave of ours so going to his restaurant and having his signature andouille-encrusted drum (fish) and banana cream pie was a real treat!

From there we headed to jazz– foregoing the Maple Leaf which doesn’t start till 11 ( yikes!), and heading to Preservation Hall.

New Orleans has some beautiful art.  Here is a sculpture — one of several of swimmers on Poydras Street.

Jackson square good people watching, too.

Whew! Day 1 was a whirlwind, with 22,504 steps by 8 pm!
